We have been tails up-heads down busy with loads of stuff recently, design-wise and art-wise. Currently preparing works for our show, we have a mini-exhibition opening on 14 February (Valentine’s Day) at M16 Artspace in their multimedia room. And going along with the Valentine’s Day theme, the title is “A Fusion of Two Elements”, a precursor to our big exhibition which is happening 21 June at Belconnen Arts Centre entitled “Conjugal Relations”.
Here is the blurb for our artist statement and catch some more glimpses of these works below:
“Cate and Rob Riley, working collaboratively as partners in both art and life, present five new Lambda Duratrans and a video projection in their latest exhibition…This exhibition of multimedia works, incorporating a painted stop-frame animation with original score and a series of semi-opaque back-lit images assembled digitally from scanned drawings, paintings, objects and original photographs and overlaid with ‘digital drawings’ created using an ipad app, juxtapose metaphors for conjugation (the fusion or union of two elements into a single entity) that can be found in mathematics (complex conjugates), geometry (the fusion of arcs to form a circle; a symbol of unity), biology (such as the fusion of gametes) and in grammar (as in conjugation of verbs: ‘I am’, ‘we are’, ‘he is’ etc.)….
These works look dark but that is because the Duratrans are displayed in an A3 LED lightbox and as we have found in a previous experiment that the light tends to swamp out the image if the image is too bright.
